The Journey
From early observations to East Asian colour expertise
Where It Started
Victor’s story in colour strategy didn’t begin in a textbook — it started during his early freelance years in Hong Kong. He was working on web projects for local clients when he noticed something important: Western colour psychology frameworks weren’t telling the full story. The cultural colour associations that mattered to Hong Kong audiences were getting lost in translation.
The Education Path
Victor holds a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he developed his foundational skills in visual communication. But that observation about cultural colour meanings drove him deeper. He completed specialized training in colour psychology and accessibility standards from the International Association of Color Consultants, earning certifications that aren’t common in the industry. He’s also undergone intensive study in traditional Chinese colour symbolism — the kind of knowledge you don’t get from online courses.
Building the Methodology
Over the past 14 years, Victor’s worked with everyone from multinational corporations to government digital initiatives. What he’s developed isn’t just a colour palette generator — it’s a methodology that harmonizes complementary, analogous, and triadic colour schemes with WCAG AAA contrast requirements whilst respecting the cultural nuances that make Hong Kong audiences connect with design. He’s designed colour systems for over 200 web projects, and nearly every single one achieved AAA accessibility compliance.
Recognition and Speaking
His work’s been featured in design publications across the Asia-Pacific region. More importantly, he’s a frequent speaker at web accessibility conferences in Hong Kong and Singapore — not just presenting theory, but sharing practical methods that actually work. Victor’s passionate about one thing: proving that accessibility and cultural relevance aren’t constraints on design. They’re the foundation for creating digital experiences that genuinely resonate with people.
The Tools He Uses
You’ll find Victor working with Adobe Color, Coolors, and contrast ratio calculators — tools he’s mastered for efficient palette generation. But he doesn’t rely on tools alone. The real work happens in understanding your audience, their cultural context, and what colours actually mean to them. That’s where science meets insight.

How Victor Approaches Colour Strategy
The methodology behind every palette decision
Understand Your Audience
Who are they? What’s their cultural background? What colour associations matter in their context? This isn’t guesswork — it’s research.
Identify Brand Intent
What feeling should the brand convey? Trust? Energy? Tradition? Innovation? The colour strategy needs to support that intent across all touchpoints.
Build Harmonious Schemes
Using complementary, analogous, or triadic relationships, Victor creates palettes that feel balanced and intentional. Not random colour combinations — strategic harmony.
Verify Accessibility
Every colour pair is tested for WCAG contrast compliance. Tools like Adobe Color and Coolors help, but the verification is meticulous and non-negotiable.
Document & Deliver
You’ll receive a complete colour system with documentation: hex values, RGB, HSL, usage guidelines, and the cultural rationale behind every choice.
